BIG Agnes BIG house
The Big Agnes Big House meets the needs of a base camp/family car camper. Lots of room, very sturdy & easy to put up. It took me about 15 min to put up by myself. The materials are all of good quality and look to be able to withstand Colorado camping. The roll up rain fly is awesome as temps change in CO quickly. So far, I have taken the big house camping around Bailey, CO (Brown's canyon, Chinaman Gulch & Eleven Mile Res) for some fly fishing. In March-April, temps dropped to around 25 with high winds at night. We did need to use our bags for heat, but the tent handled the wind/rain without any problems & no leaks at all. 3 people and 2 dogs (husky & terrier) fit comfortably. I did get optional the footprint & vestibule, both of which I would highly recommend. There is plenty of storage in the tent (shelves & pockets) to hold misc gear. However, the vestibule provides a great place to store your bigger gear & boots. After you are done camping & packing everything up, you will really appreciate the carrying bag. It holds everything (tent, footprint, vestibule & stakes) easily & closes up to a very easy to carry bag. The Big House is made from quality materials, but that causes it to be fairly heavy packed. If I took it backpacking, I would prolly just split the load... All in all, this looks to be a great tent for the car camping trips. The only reason I took off a star, is because of the way the 3rd pole going from side-to-side pulls the tent edges out & seem to pull out excessively. I'm not sure that it will cause any problems, but it looks to stress the tent at the points that the poles attach to the tent.
